ASSIGNMENT 3: USING ONE LIGHT
Using the 250 watt
halogen bulb, our assignment was to make a portrait by selecting a quality and
direction of light to communicate an emotion. An additional portrait
should reflect the opposite feeling.

The
inverse square law states that the intensity of the light
from a point source diminishes inversely to the square of the distance. In
the first image the light is located on the floor, on Raquel’s left side and
the inverse square law is shown with the fall off of light as the subject gets
further away from the source of light.
Also shown in this image, the second
law of light determines that Light travels in a straight line. This law is
shown by the shadows projected in the background – specially with the bench’s
straight lines proportionally distorted by where the light source was placed in
relation to the object .
